The Dead Sea Float

After we were down with Qumran, we went to the Dead Sea for a "floating" experience. The Dead Sea is reputed to have the highest salt content in the world, so much that people cannot sink in it. And it is proven true! The moment we place our butts down, we just floated up! Amazing indeed!

That day when we went to the Dead Sea, it was a very hot day, that I had to slather a thick layer of sunscreen to protect my face and body. Then we went on to the Dead Sea, where I had a field time floating, splashing, and rubbing the Dead Sea mud all over my body!

 Floating in the Dead Sea

There are signs showing instructions for bathers in the Dead Sea. And yes, you should not swallow the water, nor should you allow the water to enter your eyes or mouth, as it really stings! After floating in the Dead Sea, you should go to one of the outdoor showers immediately to wash off all the salt, mud and water, before having a proper shower in the changing room. This is also to prevent your swimsuit from spoiling.

We went on to Jerusalem after that and checked into our hotel. We washed our swimsuits immediately, but still, the salt content was so high that we needed several washes before the water runs clear. That is how salty the Dead Sea water is!

So if anyone of you want to attempt swimming in the Dead Sea, please note that there is a risk of your clothing colour running, and drink as much water as possible because the salt content in the sea really dehydrates you!
